Hi, Ho, Hi, Ho, it’s off to work I go . . .

Welcome! Welcome! On Monday, I started working again. I haven’t had a regular job in over sixteen years. I wasn’t singing as I pursued the work force, either.

It was more like wailing, moaning, and gnashing of teeth. You see, I love being a stay at home mom. When one of my children calls me from school with a need, I have no problem filling that need. Actually, I usually enjoy it. I also love when they come home and I am the first person they seek. My oldest often walks in the door and says, “Ma-Ma” in this quick and cute way that only he does. I know that he’s in a good mood and he’s happy to see me, even though I ask him how his day went and he just says, “Meh.”

The second oldest makes me laugh. He whirls through the door with a hello and disappears. My younger two always want hugs. I try to savor these moments because I know they will soon be gone. They are growing up and will be too cool and too grown up for very many hugs.

Maybe, it is time to do a role reversal and seek them out when I walk in the door. I hope that I can make them feel as special as they have made me feel. I don’t tell them often enough how glad I am to have them in my life and that I hope this job isn’t hard on them.

I have gotten to where I enjoy the quiet moments alone as well, to reflect on everything going on in my life as I clean, do the dishes, and do laundry among all the other things that stay at home mothers do, the same things that working mothers do. Keeping up with housework is as overwhelming to me as leaving the kids.

So, it is time to polish up on my time management skills, put on a better attitude and go to work. Thanks for reading!
